Tinubu expands Army to 12 divisions, approves 28,000 recruits

President Bola Tinubu has approved the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to twelve divisions and the recruitment of 28,000 additional military personnel.

In a statement signed Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said that under the new 12-division structure, the Nigerian Army will be deployed to 1 Division Headquarters in Kaduna, 2 Division Headquarters in Ibadan, 3 Division Headquarters in Jos, 5 Division Headquarters in Makurdi, and 6 Division Headquarters in Port Harcourt.

The structure includes 7 Division Headquarters in Maiduguri, 8 Division Headquarters in Sokoto, 9 Division Headquarters in Ilorin, and 10 Division Headquarters in Jalingo.

There will also be 81 Division Headquarters in Lagos, 82 Division Headquarters in Enugu, and 83 Division Headquarters in Benin City.
Each of the divisions, as usual, will cover the states around and or within its jurisdiction respectively.

The Presidency further revealed that the four new divisional commands established in Makurdi, Ilorin, Jalingo and Benin City would significantly improve command and control, decentralise operational decision-making, enhance counter-insurgency and internal security operations, strengthen border security and ensure faster military response to emerging threats.
