TWELVE PEOPLE KILLED AS FIRE SWEEPS THROUGH SOUTHEAST TURKEY

Turkey’s health Minister, Fahrettin Koca has revised upwards the death toll from a fire that swept through the Diyarbakir and Mardin provinces, in south eastern Turkey on Thursday night.
 
Hours after the blaze Deputy Interior Minister Munir Karaloglu said at the scene in Diyarbakir that eleven people had perished and seventy eight, brought to hospital. 
 
Koca said that of the seventy eight, five remained in hospital and three were in a serious condition. 
 
Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said the fire has been brought under control and the cause was being investigated.
 
The blaze that started late on Thursday burned through straw and was fanned by strong winds the local governor’s office said.
