The Bursar of the University of Benin, Mr Victor Imagbe, on Thursday, escaped being kidnapped by gunmen, who invaded his home at Ogheghe along Sapele Road, Benin.
Sad to say, an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ugiagbe Alex Osaghae, who was on guard duty at the home of the bursar, was killed by the gunmen, who also made away with his service rifle.
A source at the Edo State Police Command confirmed the incident, adding that investigation aimed at nabbing the perpetrators had commenced.
It was gathered that the gunmen came to Imagbe’s house around 2.45 am and opened fire on the NSCDC officer, who died on the spot.
Osaghe’s corpse has been deposited in the mortuary of the Central Hospital, Benin.
The Public Relations Officer, Edo State Command of the NSCDC, Mr Ogbebor Efosa, also confirmed the incident.
