USA vs Nigeria: Waldrum wants top friendlies for Super Falcons
Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum insisted that the senior women’s national team must face opponents such as the United States to compete with the best in the world.
The Super Falcons were dazed 4-0 by the US at Kansas City last weekend but Waldrum while speaking with NFF Tv hinted he was not particular about the result but raising a solid team for the Australia and New Zealand 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
He praised the Nigeria Football Federation(NF) for arranging the two friendly games with the United States but asserted that it was important for more games to be organised for the girls to keep them together and keep them ready for the World Cup.
Waldrum stated that the progress made by South Africa and Morocco in women’s football on the continent was never accidental as he charged the football house to ensure there is a concerted effort to keep the Super Falcons at the top in Africa and among the best in the world.
Ahead of tonight’s encounter, which will commence at 11 pm Nigeria time (6 pm in Washington D.C),, Waldrum has predicted another tough game, stressing that the experience that will be garnered from both fixtures would be invaluable.
“We know there is going to be a challenge and another difficult game on Tuesday but the experience we gained is invaluable,” Waldrum told NFF Tv. “To be one of the top teams in the world, we have to play against this type of teams and get exposed so we learn from it and be better.
“It takes time to be good if you look at what Morocco and South Africa are doing. Their teams are together on a regular basis.”
Meanwhile, the Super Falcons took time to have a ‘Meet and Greet’ session with some prominent Nigerians based in the State of Missouri, including Adeola Ajayi (ex-Nigeria basketball team player), Chioma Atanmo (Community Manager, Sporting KC), Olofu Agbaji (ex-Nigeria basketball team player), Tijani Idris (ex-Nigeria basketball team player) and David Ehindero (a U.S –based Nigerian businessman).
Also at the simple but lively session were John Allagh (ex-Nigeria basketball team player), Prince Tega (a player with NFL football team, Kansas City Chiefs), Ochai Agbaji (ex-Nigeria basketball team player) and Victor Ejelonu (CEO, My Village Grill Restaurant).
