President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday hosted in the audience Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, newly appointed Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), telling her that despite the robust support Nigeria gave to her candidacy for the position, she also earned it.

The President said Dr. Okonjo-Iweala was putting Nigeria more on the world map and congratulated her.

The new WTO DG thanked President Buhari for the pulsating support she received from her own country in the race for the position. #

 

School Attack: Three Teachers Abducted, No Pupil Missing – Kaduna Govt

Bandits have abducted three teachers from a primary school in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in the state, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this on Monday while giving an update on the incident.

He, however, noted that no pupil was kidnapped or declared missing after a headcount was conducted.

As of the time when the news of the attack broke, it was reported that an unknown number of pupils and teachers were feared missing.

The latest attack followed the attempts by bandits to attack three schools in the state – at the secondary and tertiary levels. #

 

CAN Sues FG Over CAMA 2020

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has filed a lawsuit before the Federal High Court Abuja challenging the legality of the just gazetted controversial Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 (CAMA).

CAN disclose this in a statement signed on Monday by its General Secretary, Joseph Bade Daramola, noting that the Christian body is not comfortable with the law.

The suit was between the Incorporated Trustees of Christian Association of Nigeria, the Corporate Affairs Commission and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment.

The plaintiff counsels were led Joe-Kyari Gadzama when the case was mentioned at the Abuja court on Monday.

On its decision to approach the court, CAN explained that “all attempts to convince the Federal government why it should not intervene or interfere with the management of the Church in the country through any of its agencies failed. #

AstraZeneca fear: Nigeria insists vaccine is safe; 13 countries suspend use

The Presidential Tasks Force (PTF) on COVID-19 has insisted that the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine is safe for Nigerians despite the growing global concerns over possible side effects.

Dr Mukhtar Muhammad, the National Incident Manager (NIM) of the PTF on COVID-19 made this known on Monday in Abuja at the joint national briefing of the taskforce.

However, on Thursday night, eight European countries have suspended all or part of its roll-out as a precaution while they investigated concerns relating to blood clots and other side effects caused by the vaccine.

But Nigeria’s Muhammad insisted that the clinical trials had shown that the side effects are “generally mild’’. #

 

Naira exchanges for N481 per dollar at the parallel market

The naira on Monday exchanged for N481 per Dollar at the parallel market.

At the Exporter & Importer forex window, the exchange rate hit a high of N412 Naira.

The Central Bank of Nigeria recently disclosed that the naira depreciated at the official market to N410 against the dollar. #
