11 Kidnap Victims Regain Their Freedom in Katsina

At least 11 persons who had been abducted in the last two days at Sabon Garin Safana village in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State have finally regained their freedom.

In a statement signed and issued by the Police Spokesman in the state, Gambo Isah, the victims were rescued in the bandits’ hideout, at the outskirt of Tsaskiya village in Safana Local Government Area on Sunday after the police received credible intelligence.

Isah who recalled that bandits attacked Sabon Garin Safana village, on November 12, 2021, and kidnapped 11 members of the village explained that the rescued victims were already taken to Dutsinma General Hospital for medical examination and treatment and have since been reunited with their respective families, with efforts been on top gear with a view to arresting perpetrators of the crime. 

Odili Seige: Malami Reiterates Non-Involvement, Denies Knowing Suspect 

The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami has again, denied any involvement in the controversial siege on the home of a Judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Mary Odili.

The minister reiterated that he never gave any order for the siege to be carried out while making further clarifications about a suspect – Lawrence Ajodo, who said he had worked previously with the Attorney General of the Federation.

According to Malami, the suspect is not under the pay record of the ministry and even if he was, he would not carry out operations that are outside the scope of the ministry.

The Police also noted that their investigations revealed that there is no involvement at all of the officials of the office of the AGF in the raid. 

Anambra Govt honours Azikiwe, declares Tuesday public holiday

Anambra State government has declared Tuesday, November 16, 2021, as a public holiday.

The declaration, according to a release by the state commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Don Adinuba is in honour of Nigeria’s first president, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, who was born on November 16, 1904.

Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano reiterated his call on the Federal Government to declare November 16, a nationwide public holiday in memory of The Great Zik of Africa, in honour of his contribution to Nigeria.

This year would be the third year the Anambra State government, under Obiano would be observing the birthday anniversary. 

Cholera kills four as Nigeria records 100,057 cases

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control or NCDC announced on Sunday that four were killed by cholera as 78 suspected cases had been reported in the country from November 1 to 7, 2021.

The NCDC revealed through its Facebook page that a total of three thousand, four hundred and forty-nine deaths and one hundred thousand and fifty-seven suspected cases had been reported as of November 7, 2021, representing a Case Fatality Rate (CFR) of 3.4 per cent.

The latest cholera report revealed that the four fatalities were reported from two undisclosed states, while six states reported 78 new suspected cases, making the weekly CFR 5.1 per cent.

The NCDC reported that nine Cholera Rapid Diagnostic Tests were conducted during the reporting week. Five were conducted in Adamawa and one each in the states of Kebbi, Cross River, Ogun and Oyo. 

At Least 20 Killed in Attack on Gendarmes in Burkina Faso

Suspected jihadists have killed at least 19 gendarmes and a civilian in an attack on Sunday, in northern Burkina Faso.

The army chief of staff in a statement said the pre-dawn attack, one of the deadliest to hit Burkinabe defence and security forces since jihadist violence erupted six years ago, targeted a detachment of the Inata gendarmerie.

The Security Minister, Maxime Kone said on national radio that the attack left 20 dead including a civilian according to a provisional toll while stating that the gendarmes resisted and fought bravely, adding that survivors had been located, with a search still underway for others.
