President Buhari has been misadvised on Nigeria’s grazing laws —Senate spokesman
The Senate spokesman, Senator Ajibola Basiru has called on the President to devise a long-lasting solution towards resolving the farmers and herders crisis instead of resorting to grazing routes, which, according to him, were never recognised by any federal law.
Basiru made this call on Wednesday in a statement in Abuja, while lamenting that the president has been misadvised on the issues of grazing laws in the country, which has further deepened the farmers and herders crisis.
According to him, the Grazing Reserves Laws is not applicable to all states but only applicable and enforceable in the states created from the former Northern Region that chose to adopt same as part of their revised laws like Kwara, Bauchi and Katsina states. #
Gunmen kidnap Rivers United Coach, Stanley Eguma in Enugu
Unknown gunmen, on Wednesday, kidnapped Rivers United coach, Stanley Eguma in Enugu State.
Mr Eguma was kidnapped on his way from Gombe State where his team lost to Adamawa United on Sunday.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, while confirming the incident in a statement on Thursday, said the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Aliyu, has ordered the immediate rescue of Mr Eguma.
While urging members of the public to provide the police with useful information.
Four Police officers Killed in gun duel in Zamfara
Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of 4 police officers and one Civil Defence personnel during an exchange of fire with the bandits who blocked the Bakura-Sokoto highway and robbed many passengers last Sunday.
The Command Public Relations Officer SP Muhammad Shehu confirmed the incident to Journalists in Gusau, the state capital, on Wednesday.
The police image maker stated that during the encounter, many of them were neutralized, adding that six AK-47 rifles belonging to the police personnel who were ambushed by the bandits during the gun duel were recovered.
We’ve repaid $150m out of $2bn Chinese loan – Amaechi
Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said the Federal Government has repaid up to $150million dollars out of the $2billon dollar loan borrowed from China to construct rails.
Amaechi stated this while answering questions on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme on Wednesday.
He said the President Muhammadu Buhari administration only borrowed for the Kaduna-Abuja and the Lagos-Ibadan railways.
The minister stated that although the Ministry of Finance was the one in position to give the accurate amount borrowed and repaid adding that he was notified that it was between a $100m to $150m repayments done so far in the Kaduna-Abuja railway project.
He added that the ministry borrowed $500m in the Kaduna-Abuja project and $1.5bn for Lagos-Ibadan, bringing the total loan exposure for the Ministry of Transport to about $2bn as far as the railway is concerned.#
