Avoid Politicking, COAS Warns Troops Ahead Of 2023 Elections
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has warned troops of the Nigerian Army to avoid being dragged into politicking as electoral activities intensify ahead of the 2023 general elections.
He gave the charge on Tuesday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital while addressing troops during his operational tour of two brigade Area of Responsibility (AOR).
A statement signed by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, said Lieutenant General Yahaya also admonished the troops to remain focused in the conduct of ongoing internal security operations across the country. #
PDP Nominates Igariwey To Replace Umahi As Ebonyi Governor
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has nominated Iduma Enwo Igariwey as a replacement for Governor David Umahi, and Fred Udeogu as Deputy Governor.
This comes hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi and his Deputy, Eric Igwe, to vacate their seats as Governor and Deputy respectively, on grounds that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won the election on March 2019 and not the candidates.
The governor and his deputy had been elected into office in the 2015 and 2019 general elections on the platform of the PDP. However, they defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2020.
Delivering judgment on the matter on Tuesday, Justice Inyang Ekwo held that having defected to the APC, Governor Umahi, and his deputy cannot transfer the mandate of the PDP to their current party, the APC. #
Ademola Adeleke Declared Winner of Osun PDP Governorship Primary
Former Senator Ademola Adeleke was on Tuesday declared winner of the governorship primary election of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State.
The governorship election is scheduled to hold on July 16.
The PDP primary, held at the 10,000 capacity Oshogbo stadium, was also contested by Dotun Babayemi.
The primary election was held amid allegations of bias and litigations which could have stalled the process.
Senator Adeleke was also the PDP’s flagbearer in 2018 when he lost to incumbent Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress. #
