FG Reintroduces COVID-19 Restrictions, Shuts Bars, Recreational Centres, Limits Public Gatherings

The Federal Government has reintroduced COVID-19 restrictions across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This new directive is to take effect by midnight of Tuesday, a member of the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19, Dr Mukhtar Mohammed, declared while briefing reporters on Monday in Abuja.

With the restrictions imposed, mass gatherings in public spaces have been restricted to 50 people at any given time.

Access to government institutions would also be denied to anyone not wearing a face mask while government meetings and travels have been limited to the virtual platform.

According to Mohammed, the government has directed that bars and nightclubs should remain closed and the nationwide curfew will be in force until further notice.

The PSC member, however, stated that there was no limitation to intra-state travel. #

 

Insecurity: Presidency confirms attempted burglary at home of Chief of Staff

The Presidency has confirmed that the home of the Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, was the scene of an attempted burglary.

This was disclosed in a statement by the media aide to the presidency, Garba Shehu, on Monday evening, where he stated that the attempt at 3:00am was unsuccessful while also stating that the police is actively looking for a suspect who attacked the home of the Chief of Staff which is close to the Villa.

Professor Gambari, has assured that there is nothing to worry about from the incident, as he also that the suspect was captured by CCTV and added that the police was also actively searching for the suspected burglar. #

 

IPOB deny planned attack on Lagos, Police order probe

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, on Monday, alleged that the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra planned to attack the state.

Odumosu who spoke at a security summit convened by the Lagos State Government in Lagos on Monday, said that the threat was being investigated, and that security agencies would stop the plan.

However, the leadership of the IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, through his Director of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful, in a statement on Monday described the allegation as baseless, false and tribal, adding that it was being hatched to cause division between two friendly and loving nations, the Igbo and Yoruba. #

Police shoot 3 kidnappers dead in fierce gun-battle, rescue 7 victims

The Edo State Police Command and the local vigilante operatives, have rescued seven kidnapped victims, killing three of the kidnappers in the processes.

This was disclosed on Monday night, in a statement endorsed by the State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Kontongs Bello, who noted that the rescue operation was in continuation of the forest combing, as promised by the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, Phillip Aliyu Ogbadu.

The victims were rescued at the notorious Ahor axis, along Benin bypass, where 13 victims were rescued last Saturday.

Bello expressed CP Ogbadu’s assurance to continue to sustain the tempo, even as he promised not to relent until he rids the state of kidnappers and other criminals. #

 

FG declares Wednesday, Thursday 12th, 13th May 2021 as public holidays to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitri

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th May, 2021 as Public Holidays to mark this year’s Eidul-Fitr celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, while making the declaration on behalf of the FG today in Abuja, congratulated the Muslim faithful on this occasion and called on all Nigerians, at home and abroad to use the period of this year’s Eidul-Fitr celebration to pray for peace, stability and economic transformation in the land, as he urged all Nigerians to be law-abiding and embrace the spirit of love, self-discipline, kindness and tolerance, as taught by the Holy Prophet Mohammed.

He also called on all security agencies in the country to be more courageous and patriotic to overcome the ongoing battle against resurging insecurity and activities of criminal elements in Nigeria, while assuring that the resolve of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to end the plague of crime and criminality in the country and restore peace to Nigeria was sacrosanct. #
