86-year-old man in court for stealing N10, 000 maize in Ekiti State

The police on Tuesday arraigned an eighty-six-year-old man, Buhari Musa, who allegedly stole ten-thousand-naira worth of maize.

Musa, who resides at Itanla area of Ado-Ekiti, is facing trial for stealing before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, and however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 13 at 7.00 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.

He stated that the defendant stole the maize from the complainant, Saliu Mustapha, and said the defendant was caught at the complainant’s farm with the maize, urging the court to adjourn the case to enable him to assemble witnesses.

Counsel to the defendant, Lai Obisesan, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail, in which the Chief Magistrate, Adedayo Oyebanji, granted the defendant bail in the sum of twenty thousand naira and adjourned the case until July 8 for mention.

Police Rescue One, Recover Two Vehicles in Foiled Akwa Ibom State Robbery Attack

Akwa Ibom Police Command on Tuesday rescued one Ekemini Offiong during an armed robbery attack in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of the state.

Akpan while driving an Opel car was shot on his left hand by the criminals in an attempt to snatch the said vehicle from him.

The statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer of the SP Odiko MacDon said two stolen vehicles have also been recovered and explained that the armed robbery victim was rescued based on a distress call received at about 12 a.m. of an ongoing armed robbery attack at Drainage View Hotel, Nung Oku in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.

 

Bandits Kill 4 policemen, 1 Civil Defence personnel in Zamfara

Four policemen and one Civil Defence Personnel have been killed, leaving one other critically injured by armed Bandits in Zamfara state.

They were killed when the bandits who also set ablaze a patrol vehicle belonging to a private company in the area, laid ambush along Gora Community in Maradun local government area of the state.

Spokesperson of the police command in the state, Shehu Mohammed, has confirmed the incident and has sent a reinforcement of troops and traced the bandits into the forest where six rifles belonging to the police were recovered from the bandits after a gun duel that lasted for hours.

Nigerian Stanley Igwe killed by South African policemen

South African policemen in Kwazulu-Natal have killed a 30-year-old Nigerian, identified as Stanley Igwe.

Igwe, who hailed from Imo State, was killed on 6 June, by some police officers in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal Province.

In an interview with  Newsmen on Tuesday, the President-General of Nigerian Citizens’Association in South Africa, Ben Okoli, said that the family of the deceased has been duly informed about Igwe’s death.

Okoli appealed to the relatives of the deceased and other Nigerians, to be calm and not take the law into their hands, while they await the autopsy report and subsequent police investigation.

 

Wives of district head regain freedom after N5m, 100 handsets & 5 motorcycles ransom in Niger State

Two wives of District Head of Zungeru, Wushishi Local Government Area of Niger state, abducted by gunmen have regained their freedom after payment of N5 million Naira ransom.

Gunmen, numbering about 20 stormed the sleepy town at about 1: 30 am, last week, headed straight to the residence of the community leader took him and his two wives away.

A source from the local government told newsmen that after several days of negotiations with the group, the community was able to raise five million naira out of the ten million naira initially demanded by the armed bandits.
