Inspector-General of Police, Baba Usman seek media help to defeat Insecurity in Nigeria.

The Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman Says Nigerian security agencies cannot win the war against insecurity in Nigeria without a positive reportage by the Nigerian media.

Usman stated this at a National Broadcasting Commission meeting with the Chief Executive Officers of Stations in Abuja on Thursday.

The meeting with the theme Implication of Broadcast coverage on National security was organised to seek good collaboration between the Security Agencies and the Nigerian media in the fight against insecurity in the country adding that the media reports should not inflame negative passions, rather it should drive positive actions and responses.

He urged the National Broadcasting Commission to help control deliberate falsehood, fake news and misinformation by some media organizations as it dampens the morale of the security personnel as well as damages the image of the country. 

Niger govt confirms release of kidnapped Tegina pupils

The Niger State government has confirmed the release of kidnapped pupils of Tanko Salihu Islamic school, Tegina, Rafi Local Government Area of the State.

The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Alh Ibrahim Matane who stated in Minna that over 70 of the abductees were on their way from Birnin Gwari, a boundary between Niger and Kaduna State where they were held hostage by armed bandits, confirmed the development of their release on Thursday night.

A source close to the state government said the State Governor, Alhaji Sani Bello would be on hand to receive the school pupils on Friday at the Government House Minna. 

Akinwonmi Appointed as PDP Acting National Chairman

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Yemi Akinwonmi as its acting National Chairman.

This was disclosed by the party’s spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan after a closed-door meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja on Thursday, while disclosing the caucus meeting and the National Working Committee set for Friday and the National Executive Council meeting which will be held on Saturday.

Before his appointment, Akinwonmi was the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the main opposition party, and his appointment came three days after a High Court in Rivers State granted an interim order restraining Uche Secondus from parading or acting as the PDP National Chairman. 

7 killed as flood displaces over 74,000 persons in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, ADSEMA, on Thursday, disclosed that seven persons were killed by flood in the state this month while seventy-four thousand, seven hundred and thirteen thousand others have been displaced.

Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr Mohamed Sulaiman, who disclosed this in Yola, said 79 villages in 16 local government areas were affected by the disaster, adding that the most hit areas were Demsa, Yola South, Lamurde, Yola North and Girei Local Government Areas of the state. 

Helicopter shoots at passenger Boat in Rivers, Several feared dead

A yet-to-be-identified helicopter has reportedly shot at a local passenger boat travelling from Port Harcourt to Bonny in Rivers State.

There are fears of casualties, with some occupants severely injured and rushed to the hospital.

An eye-witness at the Bonny-Nembe waterside where the boat took off from in Port Harcourt, told newsmen that there were casualties. While expressing shock over the incident, said that the boat conveyed passengers and foodstuff.

When contacted, a spokesman of the state Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, said that he had yet to get the report and asked our correspondent to call back later.
