Nigerian Youths defile police order, hold protests to mark the one-year ENDSARS protests anniversary

Nigerian youths in some parts of the country on Wednesday, defiled police instruction not to hold any protest to commemorate 2020 ENDSARS protests.

In Lagos, Operatives of the  State Police Command arrested two protesters at the Lekki tollgate where the #EndSARS Memorial Protest was scheduled to hold in the state.

The Lagos State commissioner of police, Hakeem Odumosu, while speaking at the scene of the protest, described the arrested protesters as ” miscreants” claiming that some of them were arrested with machetes and other dangerous weapons.

Odumosu however, released the journalist, Abisola, who was also arrested by the operatives, saying that he  was arrested did not have any means of identification.

Also,  in Abuja, the nation’s capital territory, youths from various parts of the city observed a rally to mark the one-year anniversary of the #EndSARS protests.

The rally commenced at the Unity Fountain where the youths, led by social activist, Omoyele Sowore, marched across some of the major streets in the nation’s capital.

 Sowore, while addressing journalists during the rally, said the government has not shown any remorse, one year after the protests and has continued to suppress the citizens.

A lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, who was also at the rally, expressed displeasure that the panel of inquiry set up by the government to investigate cases of human rights violations in Abuja has yet to conclude its findings one year after.

Police say not informed about meeting where Imo traditional rulers were killed

Following the killing of two traditional rulers in Imo state, the Commissioner of Police in Imo, Mr Rabiu Hussaini says police was not informed on the Tuesday’s meeting with traditional rulers.

Hussaini commiserated with the bereaved families and that the fleeing bandits would be arrested and prosecuted

Police spokesman in Imo, Mike Abattam, had said in a statement that since hoodlums razed Njaba Police Division and killed two officers, only policemen on vehicular patrol were posted to the area to help check crime.

He stated that  When the command got wind of the attack, the commissioner of police mobilised the command’s tactical unit to the meeting venue to foil the attack.

He noted that information was received that hoodlums, suspected to be members of the Eastern Security Network of Indigenous People of Biafra, were attacking the venue,  where the Transitional Chairman of Njaba Local Government Council was holding meeting with some transitional rulers.

IPOB drags American academic to Court over publication on Kanu, group

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has disclosed that it has dragged the Executive Director of the School of Public and International Affairs, Baltimore University, USA, Prof. Ivan Sheehan, to court for alleged false publication against the group.

This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, accusing Sheehan of publishing a false and malicious article against the group.

According to him, Sheehan had in a piece published in The Washington Times called on the US authorities to declare IPOB a global terrorists group.

Emma noted that the academic don’s publication suggests that the creation of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) by IPOB in Nigeria, rubbishes the groups claim to be a peaceful movement, and accused the group’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu of using Radio Biafra to issue threats and back terrorism.

Kaduna Govt Makes COVID-19 Vaccination Mandatory For Civil Servants

The Kaduna State Government have mandated all civil servants in the stated to get vaccinated against the deadly coronavirus disease, noting that evidence of vaccination will be a requirement to gain entrance to their offices from October 31.

This was disclosed in a statement issued and signed by the special adviser to the Governor, Nasir El-Rufai on media and communication, Muyiwa Adekeye on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the Ministry of Health has since commenced the vaccination of all civil servants, and this is expected to be completed by 31st October 2021 adding that all civil servants were required to be vaccinated by that date

It noted that visitors to government offices will need to present their vaccination cards or evidence of registration with the state Ministry of Health for the purpose of vaccination before they would be allowed into the government offices and advised residents to register at the nearest primary health centres for vaccination.

NCAA to decommission 7,012 masts over N5.96 billion debt

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has again threatened to decommission telecommunication masts belonging to operators that are indebted to the regulatory body.

The apex regulatory body for aviation, NCAA, had in 2019 issued a similar threat to decommission unlicensed telecom masts belonging to service providers, banks and financial institutions.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations stipulates that no person or organisation shall put up a structure within the navigable airspace of Nigeria unless such a person or organisation is a holder of Aviation Height Clearance Certificate granted under this regulation.

Worst hit will be Globacom Nigeria Limited; whose alleged debt of N5.96 billion has put its seven thousand,  twelve  masts nationwide at risk.

Officials of the NCAA hinted that Globacom had been non-committal to agreements and entreaties to offset the accumulated debt, leaving the authority with no other option than to remove its masts.#

Queen Elizabeth II ‘advised to rest’ on medical grounds

Buckingham Palace  on Wednesday says Queen Elizabeth II has cancelled a planned trip to Northern Ireland on medical grounds.

Royal officials said in a statement that the 95-year-old monarch “has reluctantly accepted medical advice to rest for the next few days.”

Britain’s domestic Press Association news agency said the decision was understood not to be related to coronavirus and that she was resting at Windsor Castle, west of London.

She was also expected to attend events at the upcoming U.N. climate change summit in Glasgow next month, adding that the decision was made to self-isolate because of the increased risk of infection due to her age, although she has since been vaccinated.

Davido and Chioma Celebrates Their Son, Ifeanyi on His 2nd Birthday

The Big 2! Nigerian singer, Davido and his ex- fiancee, Chioma Rowland are celebrating their son, Ifeanyi as he turns 2 today.

Ifeanyi’s parents took to their various Instagram accounts to shower him with love.

From Davido’s side, he prayed that his son will be greater than him, noting  that Ifeanyi will make them proud.

Chioma also wrote an adorable message that made emotional prayers that moved netizens to tears and noted that the bond she shares with Ifeanyi is something she won’t  trade for anything in the world.

Davido has been known to go all out when it comes to celebrating his children’s birthday, but with the #EndSars anniversary, it’s expected that everything should be low key.


Steve Bruce: Newcastle sack head coach following club’s £305m takeover by Saudi-led consortium

Steve Bruce considering retirement as he leaves Newcastle 13 days after the club’s takeover by a Saudi-led consortium.

former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca is a contender to replace Bruce and is expected to hold talks with Newcastle this week; Graeme Jones will take charge on an interim basis.

Bruce was expected to be replaced after the Saudi Arabian-backed consortium, led by the Public Investment Fund , completed a £305m takeover of Newcastle on October 7.

The 60-year-old remained in charge for the 3-2 defeat to Tottenham – his 1,000th match as a manager.
