The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, says the institution has trained over One Thousand Two Hundred aides of the National Assembly.
This was stated by the Director-General of the Institution, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, at a three-day capacity building workshop organized for grade levels 15-17 Staff of the Senate, in Abuja on Monday.
The Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman said that the parliamentary staff of the National Assembly cannot work effectively and efficiently, in conformity with the globally accepted norms, if they were not given substantial training.
He said the workshop would enhance the technical capacity and development of officers of parliament.
While requesting financial support for the institute, Abubakar pledged commitment to strengthening the legislature and other democratic institutions through focused training and  provision of professional support services
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, who was represented by the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Philip Taminu stated that the training would improve understanding of modern trends in parliamentary administration, role of the legislative bureaucracy,
utilization of innovative solutions and ideas in NASS administration as well as increasing accountability and efficiency in the Senate
The Clerk of the National Assembly, Ojo Olatunde who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Human Resources Development, Obiodo Oladoni urged the parliamentary staff to open their minds to knowledge and values that would be inculcated in them through the training, as it would upgrade their capacity to take the NASS administration high for robust productivity.
The Three-day capacity building workshop was organized for Grade Levels 15 -17, the directorate cadre of the staff of the National Assembly.
