Abducted Kebbi Judge Regains Freedom After Week-Long Ordeal
Justice Faruku Bunza, the Kebbi State High Court judge who was abducted by gunmen a week ago, has regained his freedom and returned home safely.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed his release in a statement issued on Monday by its Public Relations Officer, CSP Bashir Usman.
According to the police, Justice Bunza regained his freedom on Monday, with his release confirmed by both his family and the Kebbi State Ministry of Justice.
The Command disclosed that although the kidnappers demanded a ransom, it maintained its policy of not paying ransom to secure the release of victims.
Police authorities said investigations have been intensified to identify and apprehend those responsible for the abduction, assuring that efforts are ongoing to bring the suspects to justice.
The Command also appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist the investigation, assuring residents that all tips would be treated with strict confidentiality.
The police further thanked residents of Kebbi State and partner security agencies for their support and cooperation throughout the rescue efforts.
Family confirms release
A member of Justice Bunza’s family also confirmed his release to Channels Television, saying the judge returned home safely after spending a week in captivity.
“We are in jubilation and full of gratitude to God for seeing our own return safely from captivity. He was just released and has returned home now after spending one week with the bandits,” the family member said.
The family expressed appreciation to the Kebbi State Judiciary, security agencies, and residents of the state for their prayers, support, and solidarity during the ordeal.
“We sincerely thank and appreciate the Kebbi State Judiciary, the security agencies, and the entire people of Kebbi State who contributed in different ways, offered prayers, and sent messages of sympathy. Your concern and support gave us strength, and we are grateful for your solidarity,” the relative added.
The family said details surrounding the judge’s release would be made public at a later time.
