Borno: ISWAP claims 10 Nigerian troops died in Rann attack

The Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) has claimed that 10 Nigerian soldiers were killed in Rann, Borno State.

On Monday, the sect attacked a military base and villages in Rann, the headquarters of Kala Balge Local Government Area.

Troops, civilians and aid workers fled in different directions as the terrorists stormed the town with guntrucks and motorcycles.

They shot indiscriminately targeting government forces and equipment.

This was contained in a statement by the sect announcing that the military suffered nearly a dozen casualties.

“With Allah’s grace, we have killed 10 Nigerian soldiers, wounded many, while the rest ran away in Rann, Borno State.

“The spoils of war we got three devices, many arms and ammunition”, it read.

ISWAP added that they burnt the barracks in Rann, two tanks, and “safely returned to our base”.

Troops regained control after Theatre Commander Major General Christopher Musa deployed more troops and assets.

Acting General Officer Commanding, GOC 7 Division, Brig. Gen. Abdulwahab Eyitayo was said to have led the counter operation.

On ISWAP claim, a military source said both sides suffered losses. No official statement has been issued yet.
