With two days left to the end of the February deadline of the old naira currency, a Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) has stormed the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN demanding the apex bank not to further extend the deadline when it comes to an end on 10th.

Presenting their demands to the CBN authorities, the National Coordinator of the CSO’s, Obed Okwukwe said the February 10 deadline for the validity of the old naira notes is much welcomed, describing those who are calling for more extension as been sponsored by politicians who wants to use the old notes they have stockpiled to induce the electorates.

This is coming few hours after the Supreme Court restrained the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from implementing the February 10 Deadline for the old 200, 500 and 1000 naira notes from seizing to becoming a legal tender.

Receiving the protesters on behalf of the CBN governor Godwin Emefiele, the Director of Corporate Communications, Osita Nwanisobi, said the apex bank is doing everything possible to make sure that the new currency is available to Nigerians.

The Supreme Court had restrained the Federal Government from implementing the February 10 Deadline. Governors of Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara state had in a motion ex-parte filed on February 3rd, by their lawyer, AbdulHakeem Mustapha (SAN), prayed the apex court to halt the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) naira redesign policy.
