Enugu State Commissioner of Police Mohammed Aliyu has ordered the immediate deployment of all operational and intelligence assets to identify and arrest the gunmen who attacked and burnt the Adani Police Station in the early hours of Wednesday.
The Commissioner of Police issued the order late Wednesday morning after he undertook an assessment visit to the burnt station in the company of heads of other security agencies in the State.
In a statement by the Police, the Force said the attackers were engaged in a gun battle by the Police Officers on duty and a number of them escaped with gunshot injuries.
Two Policemen were killed in the attack.
While commiserating with the families of the dead officers, the Commissioner of Police appealed to members of the public to provide information to the Police to help in the arrest of the fleeing gunmen.
The Police Commissioner also urged owners and operators of medical facilities to report anyone with gunshot injuries who seek treatment at their facilities.
The attack on the Adani Police Station in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State is only one of a strong attack suffered by the Police in the South-East in the past three weeks.
Also, the Special Adviser to the Enugu State Governor on Inter-party affairs, Honourable Jonathan Chukwuma has condemned the attack on Adani Police Division and the murder of two policemen by unknown gunmen.
Chukwuma in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday described the attack as a shameful act
According to him, Enugu state under Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is a peaceful State and any attempt to turn it into a war zone by any group will not be condoned.
In the past few weeks, gunmen have attacked Police stations in the South East and some states in the South-South.
