Enugu Hosts 17th National Council On Industry, Trade And Investment

The city of Enugu is once again in the limelight as it plays host to key players in Nigeria’s economic and industrial sectors.

It is the 17th National Council on Industry, Trade and Investment which runs from the 20th to the 24th of July, providing a platform for stakeholders to review existing policies, identify challenges and develop practical solutions aimed at accelerating economic growth and industrial development in Nigeria.

Enugu State Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Industry, Sam Ogbu Nwobodo who spoke at the opening session, emphasized the growing impact of digital technology on global commerce and industrial development.

National President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, NACCIMA, Dr. Jani Ibrahim commended Enugu State for hosting the council and creating an environment that promotes dialogue on economic transformation.

He noted that collaboration among governments, businesses and development institutions remains essential for addressing economic challenges and unlocking new opportunities for growth.

Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, John Enoh, described the council as a strategic platform for advancing Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda.

He noted that the recommendations emerging from the council would align with government efforts aimed at boosting industrial productivity, expanding trade and creating jobs.

For her part, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, praised Enugu State’s growing reputation as a destination for investment and economic development as demonstrated by the massive investments in infrastructure and business-friendly policies.

Governor Peter Mbah, through the Deputy Governor, Ifeanyi Ossai called for reforms that would make funding more accessible, particularly for enterprises operating in rural and suburban communities.

He maintained that increased access to capital would stimulate entrepreneurship, encourage local production and create more employment opportunities.

As deliberations continue, stakeholders are optimistic that the recommendations emerging from the gathering will provide practical pathways for strengthening Nigeria’s industrial capacity, boosting trade competitiveness and attracting the investments needed to drive sustainable economic growth.
