The Federal Government says Nigeria’s development must be anchored on constitutional planning, strong institutional coordination, and sustained reforms to achieve inclusive economic growth.

Speaking at a National Policy Dialogue in Abuja, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, said national planning remains a constitutional responsibility of all levels of government.

He commended the collaboration between the Executive and the National Assembly in advancing reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that key policies such as fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification have strengthened public finances and boosted revenue allocation to states and local governments.

Bagudu added that the proposed 2026 to 2030 National Development Plan will adopt a bottom-up approach, covering all 8,809 wards across the country to ensure inclusiveness and better alignment between planning and budgeting, with the goal of building a trillion-dollar economy by 2030.

Lawmakers also reaffirmed their support for the initiative. Chairman of the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, Gboyega Isiaka, alongside Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs, Musa Mustapha, said the National Assembly is working closely with the Executive to bridge gaps between development plans and budget implementation.

They stressed that the dialogue is aimed at aligning national development strategies with the budgeting system to ensure efficiency and deliver sustainable growth under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
