In a similar development, Governor Douye Diri has assured of his commitment to strengthen the third tier of government to foster development in the communities.
Swearing in the newly elected the newly sworn-in local government chairmen and vice chairmen of the eight local government areas of the state charges them to uphold the tenets of transparency.
He said they must consult and keep in touch with the people as they are the closest to the grassroots to ensure peace and development in their areas.
The governor vowed not to tamper with local government funds saying he would rather assist them in developing their areas.
He warned the local government chairmen to desist from obtaining loans with interest.
The state’s helmsman also encouraged the chairmen to maintain the reforms initiated during the administration’s first term and reaffirmed the importance of operating from their council headquarters as well as prioritise the prompt payment of salaries.
And while inaugurating chairman of the Bayelsa State Board of Internal Revenue, Daniel Eniekezimene, the governor urged him to devise strategies to enhance the state’s internally generated revenue and partner with relevant agencies to strengthen the revenue generation process as well as promptly address loopholes in the system.
Describing internal revenue as very crucial to achieving the objectives of government, Diri noted that the board plays a critical role in the financial well-being of the state.
