Nigeria flags off phase 2 of Covid 19 vaccination across the country.
Nigerian Government through the Ministry of Health has rolled out the second phase of Covid 19 vaccination in all the states of the federation.
This was disclosed by the Director, Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib, on Monday in Abuja.
According to him, Nigeria would begin the vaccination with Four Million, Eighty Thousand doses of Moderna Covid 19 vaccine received from US Government and One Hundred and Seventy-Seven Thousand Six Hundred doses of Johnson and Johnson Covid 19 vaccine purchased by the Federal Government through the African Union.
He said that the One Hundred and Seventy-Seven Thousand, Six Hundred doses of Johnson and Johnson Covid 19 vaccines were the first tranche of Forty Million doses purchased by the Federal Government and the remaining dose would be received next month.
Shuaib stated that due to the one dose effectiveness of Johnson and Johnson Covid 19 vaccine, its administration would focus on those who live in the hard-to-reach areas, riverine, desert, mountainous and security compromised areas as they may find it difficult to go for the second dose.
The National Primary Health Care Development Agency Director further disclosed that Six Hundred and Ninety-Eight Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty doses of Astrazenacca vaccine would be received next month, a donation from UK Government through COVAX facility and would target those that are due for second doses.
He maintained that amidst misinformation leading to vaccination hesitancy, Nigeria is rated as one of the best performing in the vaccination response across the world.
While urging Nigerians to endeavour to get vaccinated, he assured Nigerians that all the brands of Covid 19 vaccines were effective and were certified by National Agency for Food and Drug Administrative Control, NAFDAC.
