The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has clarified that the national grid did not experience a collapse on Friday.

The company’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, stated this in an interview with Newsmen.

She said, “It’s line tripping, not grid collapse,” in a brief response to DAILY POST inquiry.

According to her, the line tripping, which happened at 2 pm, led to a reduction in electricity supply allocation on Friday.

Speculations about national collapse arose after electricity distribution companies reported a reduction in electricity allocation from TCN, resulting in outages across their networks.

“Please be informed that we experienced a system outage today, 07/03/2025, at 14:00 hours, affecting supply within our network. Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders,” Ikeja Electric Distribution Company said on Friday.

Similarly, Eko Electricity Distribution Company stated, “The current power situation is due to reduced power allocation from our TCN partners aimed at maintaining grid stability. The situation has resulted in unavoidable load shedding across our network.”

On 12 February, Nigeria also experienced outages that plunged parts of the country into darkness.

Meanwhile, TCN has maintained that the country has not experienced a grid collapse in 2025.

Last year, Nigeria suffered at least 11 system collapses.
