A fall in the share prices of GUARANTY TRUST BANK and ZENITH BANK and other ten equities on Thursday caused traders lose Fifty-Nine Point Eight-Eight Billion naira at the close of business.
The highly capitalized stocks of GUARANTY TRUST BANK and ZENITH BANK shed Two Kobo and Forty-Five Kobo on their share prices respectively with high value of stocks traded, pushed the All Share Index points to close red.
The Equity capitalization therefore fell from Twenty Point Four Trillion naira to Twenty Point Three-Six Trillion.
The volume also closed red, falling from Three Hundred and Forty-Seven Point One-Seven Million shares traded on Wednesday, to Two Hundred and Thirty-Nine Point Four Million on Thursday.
The value similarly fell to Two Point Three Billion from Two Point Eight Billion
The market sentiment measured by breadth however was positive as twenty-six gainers were recorded against twelve losers.
On the activity chart, UAC NIGERIA traded the highest volume of shares with over Thirty-Seven Point –Three-Seven Million Shares, Valued at Three Hundred and Seventy Million recorded.
On the sectorial front, GUINESS dominated the consumer goods sector, Trading Over Five Point Three-Nine Million shares valued at One Hundred and Ninety-One Point Seven Million naira in a Two Hundred and Twelve deals.
JULIUS BERGER and GUARANTY TRUST BANK led the construction sector and financial sectors respectively.
Among the Twenty-Six gainers, ROYAL EXCHANGE PLC was on top with UAC NIGERIA, JAPAUL GOLD, CUTIX and LINK ASSURANCE PLC following.
On the other hand, FTN COCOA PROCESSING PLC topped the loser’s chart with NEM, REGENCY ALLIANCE INSURANCE PLC, UNITY BANK and LIVESTOCK FEEDS also listed.
