Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, officially swore in Joseph Eboigbe as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) on Monday. Before this appointment, Eboigbe held key positions within Obaseki’s administration, serving as a Special Adviser on Budget and Economic Planning, and later as Commissioner for Finance. He also chairs the 20-member transition committee tasked with ensuring a smooth handover to the next administration.
Eboigbe’s appointment comes after the resignation of the former SSG, Osarodion Ogie, who stepped down to pursue his political ambition as the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for September 21.

During the swearing-in ceremony at the EXCO Chambers in Benin City, Governor Obaseki expressed strong confidence in Eboigbe’s abilities, praising him as a diligent and detailed professional. Obaseki emphasized that Eboigbe’s deep involvement in the administration from the start makes him the ideal person to help guide the state through the final months of Obaseki’s term and ensure a successful transition to the next government.
In his response, Eboigbe expressed gratitude to the governor for the trust placed in him. Acknowledging the significance of his new role, especially with the administration nearing its conclusion, he committed to performing his duties with excellence and exceeding the expectations set for him.
