Ogun APC factions plan parallel state congresses as police threaten showdown

Indications have emerged that the factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun Ogun State have concluded Plans to hold a parallel State congress on Saturday.

Recall that members of the party loyal to Governor Dapo Abiodun and those of his predecessor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, had earlier conducted parallel ward and local government congresses in the State.

As the state congress holds tomorrow, the two factions have mobilised their members for the all-important exercise.

While the Abiodun loyalists plan to hold their congress at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, the Amosun faction agreed to converge on the Ake Palace ground, also within the state capital.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State police command has threatened to have a showdown with anyone who tried to disrupt the APC congress.

The police, laying claim to “The credible intelligence at its disposal,” warned that any act of hooliganism and brigandage before, during and after the congress would not be tolerated.

A statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, partly reads:

“In view of this, the Commissioner of Police has deployed a large number of policemen to MKO Abiola stadium Kuto, which is the venue of the congress.

“Therefore, anybody who has no business in and around the venue of the congress is warned by this release to steer clear of the place.

“The Command will deal decisively with anybody caught in any act capable of undermining the peace and tranquility being enjoyed in the state, no matter the position or status of such person.”
