Oyo Police, FRSC keep mum 24 hours after 18 die in road accident

The Oyo State Police Command and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) are yet to provide details of the accident which claimed about 18 lives on Saturday.

It was reported that about 18 people reportedly lost their lives as a result of an accident that occurred along Iseyin-Ibadan Road on Saturday evening.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at a sharp bend at Kilometre 5, Iseyin-Ibadan Road and that about eight of the passengers were members of a Baptist Church in Ibadan.

It was learnt that the two buses collided which resulted in the death of about 18 of the passengers in both buses.

Some of the victims were taken to a private hospital, FADOK Hospital in Iseyin.

A member of the Baptist Convention in the state confirmed that some of the members of the church died in the accident.

He said that, “Yes. Some of our members of Baptist were involved in the accident. A pastor and some members.

“They were coming from Saki”.

But, the state police command and the Federal Road Safety Corps, Oyo State command, have refused to provide details of the incident.

This is coming 24 hours after the incident occurred.

Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Mr Adewale Osifeso, when contacted on Sunday, said, “Updates would be made available soonest, please”.

Similarly, efforts to get details of the accident from the FRSC also proved to be abortive.

An official of the FRSC, who spoke on behalf of the Sector Commandant, Mrs. Uche Winifred Chukwurah, noted that the command is yet to receive details of the incident from its officers.

She told DAILY POST on Sunday that the Sector Commandant was on leave.

She said that the command has not been briefed about the incident 24 hours after the incident.
