The People’s Redemption Party, PRP, Nigeria’s longest surviving leftist party, on Friday inaugurated a 35-member policy committee.
Membership of the committee is drawn from Nigeria’s intellectual community of wide-ranging disciplines and background.
Speaking at the inauguration, the national Chairman of PRP, Falalu Bello enumerated areas in which the Policy Advisory Committee will intervene to produce the party focus and policy position. The areas include; Agriculture, Education, Energy and the Industries, Banking and Fiscal Policy, Foreign policy and Pan-African Solidarity, Internal Security and Civil Liberties, Political and Representative Structures, Law and Order as well as Digital Information Technology.
The title of the speech by Bello which was titled, “Harvesting Nigeria’s Intellectual Vineyard” stated the position of PRP that intellectuals have a role to play in the Political, Social and Economic evolution of every society.
The party said it will not spare any effort in involving Nigeria’s intellectuals in the struggle to advance the material and social advancement of the ordinary citizen.
The membership of the 35-man committee includes; Prof. Attahiru Jega OFR, former INEC Chairman, Prof. Ifeanyi Anigbogu, Prof. A.U Nnonliye, Dr. Aminu Aliyu, Comarade Abdulkadir Isa, Mr. Chom Baju, Prof. Gani Yoroms, Prof. Habu Mohammed, and Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed.
The committee is to critique existing government policies and programmes in the areas identified by the party.
