Vice President Kashim Shettima has defended the economic reforms of the Tinubu administration, saying President Bola Tinubu deserves commendation rather than condemnation for policies aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s economy.

Speaking at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit in Asaba, Shettima said the administration inherited an economy facing capital scarcity but has since recorded significant improvements, including increased foreign reserves and renewed investor confidence.

The Vice President noted that Nigeria’s foreign reserves have risen to over 52 billion dollars, describing the achievement as a major milestone despite global economic challenges.

Shettima also praised Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo for supporting the administration’s economic reforms, recalling that Soludo had urged Nigerians during the 2023 elections to focus on grassroots support rather than political intimidation.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to partnering with state governments and supporting credible investments by removing barriers to business and economic growth.

According to official figures, Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves stood at about 35.09 billion dollars when the Tinubu administration assumed office in May 2023 and have since climbed above 51 billion dollars, the highest level recorded since 2009.
