‘Alarmed’ Governors To Meet Over COVID-19 Second Wave As Schools Re-Open

The Nigerian Governors Forum on Monday said it will meet on Wednesday to chart a way out of the second wave of the pandemic as schools reopen across the country.

In a statement signed by its spokesman Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, the Governors forum said it was alarmed by the intensity of the second wave of the global pandemic and the country’s “tardy commencement of vaccination.

Nigeria’s number of new cases has skyrocketed in recent weeks, seeing the nation cross the 100,000-mark for total infections. #

Kaduna gunmen ambush anti-bandits’ policemen’s vehicle, four killed, cop missing

Four riot policemen lost their lives on Friday after bandits numbering about 100 attacked them along Birnin-Gwari Funtua highway.

The operatives attached to Police Mobile Force 9 Squadron, Kano, reportedly repelled the attacks and inflicted heavy casualties on the criminals.

According to a statement on Sunday by the Force spokesman, CP Frank Mba, one officer was missing from the personnel attached to Operation Puff Adder.

They had just completed their operation against bandits and other criminals in Niger State and were returning to their base in Kano when they were ambushed.

The statement explained that the remaining 11 men led by their Unit Commander successfully recovered the bodies and firearms of their fallen colleagues, noting that efforts were being intensified to rescue the missing officer. #

Eight killed as bandits attack Zamfara community

The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the death of eight people in an attack by suspected armed bandits on Janbako Community of Maradun LGA in the early hours of Sunday

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, S.P Mohammed Shehu said the bandits launched a reprisal attack on the said community following the invasion of a Fulani settlement that led to the gruesome killing of three of the Fulanis by the outlawed “Yansakai” group.

Shehu said the attack on Janbako Community was aggravated by the continued operation of members of the outlawed “Yansakai” group despite its proscription by the state government.

He Maintained that the outlawed group was still being a nuisance to the peaceful stability of Zamfara State. #

Dangote completes Nigeria’s longest concrete road

The Dangote Group says it has completed Nigeria’s longest rigid pavement located in Kogi State. According to a statement issued by the group on Sunday, the 43KM Obajana-Kabba road constructed by Dangote Industries Limited, has been described by motorists as the country’s most strategic highway aiding travellers between the North and the South.

The Project Director, Olatunbosun Kalejaiye, expressed his excitement on the completion of the Corporate Social Responsibility Project to be used by Nigerians, adding that while the rigid pavement had been completed, the company was dressing the shoulders.

Site Engineer, Samuel Obosi, assured that the dual carriage way would be durable and less susceptible to potholes and repairs like asphalt road.

He added that it would crash the rate of road accidents in the country.

 The Bajana of Obajana Land, King Idowu Senibi, described the project as gigantic and the first of its kind anywhere in Nigeria.

Inter Beat Juventus To Move Level With Leaders Milan

Inter Milan beat champions Juventus 2-0 to move level on points with Serie A leaders AC Milan on Sunday, boosting their hopes of a first league title since 2010.

Inter are equal on 40 points with local rivals Milan, who travel to Cagliari on Monday, with Juventus fifth, seven points behind the Milan teams with a game in hand.

For Inter coach Antonio Conte it was a first win in four meetings against the club he led to the first three of their current runs of nine consecutive league titles. #
