The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas is calling for renewed Legislative action to guarantee the safety of Nigerian workers and strengthen occupational safety standards nationwide.
Abbas who spoke at the 2025 World Day for Safety and Health at Work Conference in Abuja where he was represented by Adelegbe Oluwatimehin stressed the need to protect workers from hazards and fatalities.
He advocated a stricter enforcement of safety protocols, particularly in high-risk sectors like construction, healthcare, and mining.
Chairman of the Committee, David Zacharias, described the conference as a landmark effort while pledging continued legislative advocacy for improved safety policies.

In a goodwill message, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Muhammadu Dingyadi, said the Federal Government is committed to the safety of workers and the work environment.
The event with the theme “The Legislative Perspective: Safety First, Building a Safer Future for All Nigerians,” was organized by the House Committee on Safety Standards and Regulations to address workplace safety and challenges.
