YULETIDE: BAN ON FIREWORKS IN IMO TO BE ENFORCED – POLICE
The Imo State Police Command has reiterated that the ban on the sale, use, and distribution of pyrotechnics, commonly known as ‘knockouts’ or ‘bangers’, will be enforced across the state during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
The Command’s public relations officer, Henry Okoye, in a statement on Sunday, said that ban measure became necessary to ensure public safety, preventing injuries and reducing the risks of fires and accidents caused by fireworks.
He warned that any individual or group caught in possession of or using pyrotechnics —whether during public holidays, festivals, or private events, will be arrested and made to face severe legal consequences.
Okoye further stated that the Command will continue to conduct regular patrols and operations to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
The Command equally assured that enhanced security measures will be implemented throughout the Yuletide period to safeguard lives and property.
