Alaafin: Sympathisers throng palace as traders shut markets over demise of Oba Adeyemi
Hundreds of sympathisers and mourners have besieged the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Atanda Olayiwola Adeyemi.
Our correspondent, who is currently monitoring the movements in the palace, reports that the development became necessary due to the demise of the traditional ruler.
SIGNATURETV had in the early hours of Saturday reported that the monarch had joined his ancestors.
The monarch passed away at Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti. The traditional ruler died at the age of 83.
The Media and Publicity Director to the monarch, Bode Durojaiye, has confirmed the demise of the traditional ruler.
It was gathered that hundreds of sympathizers, mourners, family, indigenes of Oyo and other neighbouring towns in the state have thronged the palace to mourn the demise of the traditional ruler.
The mourners among whom are youths, aged, men and women are currently at the palace eulogizing the virtues of the monarch.
They described the monarch as someone who would be missed by his subjects.
It was also gathered that major markets, shops and event centres have been shut as a result of the death of the monarch.
It was gathered that market leaders in Oyo town took the decision to honour the monarch.
