The Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II has been dethroned.
The dethronement of the Emir was annouced by the kano state government on Monday after a state executive council meeting presided over by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje..
last week , the Kano State house of assembly began a probe of the Emir over allegations of financial mismanagement.
The same allegation was raised in 2019 by the Kano state government before it created foru new emirates out of the old Kano emirate over which the deposed emir was in charge.
The Kano state house of assembly is not know to have submitted the report of the new probe. it could not be verified whether the action of the Kano state government to dethrone emir Muhammad Sanusi II arose from the findings of the state house of assembly.
Before the latest development their has been a running battle between the outspoken emir and the Kano state government on issues that included child marriage, street children popularly called Almajiri and the marriage to many wives who are not effectively taken care of by their poor husbands.
Some of the issues ended up in court litigation with the emir challenging the state governor on his authority to create new emirates, appoint new emirs or meddle into the traditional institution in the state
