Atiku campaign team visits Ozigbo, solicits support from Anambra

The 2023 Atiku campaign team led by the founder of Africa Independent Television (AIT), High Chief Raymond Dokpesi on Sunday visited the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate during last year’s election in Anambra State to solicit support.

Speaking at the event, Dokpesi said that apart from seeking the support of the former governorship candidate, the visit was also to inform Anambra people that former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar will be contesting the 2023 presidential election.

He described Anambra as a state that is always at the forefront of producing leaders of Nigeria and has also shown commitment to PDP as a party over the years.

According him, Anambra was the 30th state visited by the team, urging  credible South-Eastern leaders to come together and agree on the direction after considering all factors.

Ozigbo also thanked the Atiku Campaign team for finding him worthy of their visit and expressed admiration for Dr Dokpesi’s commitment, stating that he was encouraged by his consistency for the PDP.

 

2023 Presidency: Igbos Reject Vice-Presidential Slot

 

The Igbo speaking people in Nigeria have said no to the offer of taking the vice-presidential slot, as the 2023 general elections draw near.

The Southeastern region of the nation is agitating for a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction, but the possibility of making this happen has become a big puzzle as major political parties are yet to conclude on zoning.

Stressing the need to consider an Igbo man as the next leader for the nation, First Republic Aviation Minister, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi who spoke last weekend in an interview with the media , said Nigeria may go separate ways after 2023 should the North retains the Presidency.

Amaechi urged the two leading political parties, the All Progressive Congress, APC and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to bury the idea of fielding candidates from the north.

Gunmen kill four miners in Plateau

Gunmen have killed no fewer than four workers at a mining site in Dong village of Jos South Local Council of Plateau State.

According to information from locals,  the armed men stormed the mining area in the evening of Saturday and started shooting randomly, as the four workers reportedly fell to their bullets.

It was also learnt that a woman, who survived the gun attack, is receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Uba Ogaba, confirmed the attack, saying that the casualty figure was four, adding that the command had mobilised armed officers to the place to restore normalcy.

NYSC Boosts Federation Account By 1bn As DG Seeks Support For Trust Fund

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Director-General, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim has appealed to the Federal Government to approve the establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund for the benefit of Corps Members.

The bill on the proposed Trust Fund has passed the second reading at the House of Representatives.

The DG who stated on Monday  in Abuja while on a live programme, Journalists’ Hangout”, said the Trust Fund if actualised, would help to reinvigorate the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.

The DG, in a statement issued by, Emeka Mgbemena, Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations said it would also empower more Corps Members with start-up capitals for their business initiatives at the end of their service year, which in turn would lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty

AFCON 2021: Eguavoen Steps Down As Super Eagles’ Coach After Shock Exit

Augustine Eguavoen has stepped down as the interim coach of the Nigeria national team.

This follows the Super Eagles’ 1-0 defeat to Tunisia in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash on Sunday.

Eguavoen had led the three-time champions to three straight wins against Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.

However, they fell short against a Covid-stricken Tunisian team in the knockout stages.

According to Eguavoen, the next action is to go back to his position and allow the NFF to make a decision on the way forward.
